The major reconstruction of the Nicollet Mall gets under way April 2 with the bulk of the heavy construction to be completed this season by October. All traffic will be banned from the Mall during this time with buses rerouted to other streets. However, pedestrian access to buildings and businesses fronting the Nicollet Mall will be maintained and encouraged during this time. Also at its meeting of March 6, the Nicollet Mall Implementation Board approved a staff recommendation to relieve E & V, Inc. from its role as construction manager for the project and consolidate those responsibilities with BRW, the project designer. With this consolidation, the importance of the Mall Board’s Construction Oversite Committee to provide independent monitoring of the project is greatly increased. To this end, Tom Parish of Norwest Properties, Mall Board Member and Minneapolis BOMA Board Member, has been named to Chair the Construction Oversite Committee which is comprised of a number of people highly experienced in construction management volunteering their time to the project.
