There is so much planning and excitement leading up to the Super Bowl 52 which will be played at the US Bank Stadium on February 4th. The Minnesota Super Bowl Host Committee has many facets to focus on and prepare for. One of them is the Crew 52 Volunteers who will be helping with the 10-day festival leading up to the big day. They will commit to showing the guests the best and boldest experience possible from January 26 through February 4, 2018.

Chad Greenway is the Crew 52 Captain and the champion in getting people excited about volunteering and will play a special role in the upcoming volunteer training.

The volunteer applications were launched back in March and the Host Committee experienced an overwhelming level of interest receiving 1,000 applications within the first hour, 7,000 within the first 24 hours, and 9,000 within the first 48 hours. The committee received a total of over 30,000 applications. The majority of the applications - 91%, came from over 500 cities within Minnesota and the remaining 42 other states as well as international participants. Some of the applicants actually volunteered for the 1992 Super Bowl as well!

The next step in the application process was to narrow down the 30,000 applications and select 15,000 to have an in-person interview. The interviewers were hand selected volunteers who had either HR or volunteer management experience. These interviews were held at the newly renovated Crew 52 Volunteer Headquarters; formerly Sports Authority on Nicollet Mall in downtown Minneapolis. From that group, 10,000 were selected to be on the team of volunteers for the big event.

There are a variety of roles that the volunteers will hold including assisting in wayfinding and answering guest's questions. Volunteers will be stationed in various inside and outside positions including the MSP Airport, Minneapolis and St. Paul hotel lobbies, Mall of America and skyways. Also, volunteers will be stationed along Nicollet Mall during the 10 day fan festival, called Super Bowl Live, which will include concerts, sponsor activation, larger than life social kiosks, player appearances, ice sculptures, live broadcasts, winter activities and more. Volunteers will also be helping out at the Crew 52 Headquarters. Each volunteer will work at least three shifts.

There was an official volunteer orientation with the whole team that was held on November 12, 2017 at the Xcel Energy Center. This event included a rock band, motivational speeches and a rendition of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" by former Minnesota Vikings player and current "The Voice" contestant Esera Tualo. Also included was a fashion show displaying the Crew 52 uniform kit including a jacket, parka, polo, backback, water bottle, socks, hat, gloves and more; one of the exciting benefits of being a Super Bowl volunteer. Specific roles were assigned in December and role specific training is being held in January.

The Host Committee has been in ongoing discussions with downtown business councils and others in the community and had a communication to downtown Minneapolis property owners and managers in November. This was a Know Before You Go press event which communicated details about traffic plans, parking, security and other logistics that aim to give business owners and workers information on how to plan for and what to expect during the big event.

What a rewarding way to make your own Super Bowl 52 memories by being park of Crew 52. Crew 52 volunteers will become the face of Minnesota, hosting more than one million visitors during the 10-day festival and sharing their passion for football and the state of Minnesota, the Bold North.
